MC Risk & Backup SOP: Four Common Crisis Scenarios and How to Handle Them

Surprises happen. The key is having clear backup plans and lines. This SOP walks you through four scenarios with practical steps and sample scripts.

  1. Timing Delays (Key people or couple not ready)

  • Action: Fill airtime with light music, a brief story, or blessing-card reading.

  • Script: “While we wait, let’s enjoy a short highlight reel of the couple’s journey…”

  1. Mic or Projector Failures

  • Action: Switch to the backup mic immediately; summarize video content verbally.

  • Script: “Looks like our tech took a coffee break—let me share the highlights while they reboot.”

  1. Weather Backup (Outdoor under threat of rain)

  • Action: Activate the T-24 plan; clearly announce venue shift or tent setup; guide elders first.

  • Script: “Ladies and gentlemen, we’re moving under the clear tent to keep you dry. Please follow the aisle to your seats.”

  1. Overlong Speeches

  • Action: Use a hand signal or fade in soft music; then interject a summary and transition.

  • Script: “Thank you for that heartfelt message. To keep us on track, here’s a quick recap before we move to the next segment.”

Conclusion:
Write these lines on your cue cards and rehearse with AV and catering. When a crisis hits, you’ll stay calm, clear, and on time.
